The South African Association of Retired Teachers — uniting educators across the nation in fellowship, dignity and celebration.
Mission
To unite, support and celebrate retired teachers across South Africa, preserving their dignity and honouring their lifelong service to education.
Vision
A nation that recognises and values retired teachers, ensuring their continued wellbeing, fellowship and cultural participation.
Fellowship
Bringing retired teachers together through music, sports, outings and social activities — retirement as celebration, not isolation.
Support
Member associations provide mutual support, memorial services and financial assistance to members and their families.
Choral Music
The annual Retired Teachers Choir Festival is our flagship event celebrating choral music and the shared heritage of SA's educators.
Community
Our members add value to communities by promoting education as a societal priority and mentoring younger generations.
Teaching is not just a profession — it is a lifelong calling. SAART honours the dedication of educators who have shaped generations of South Africans.
🎶 The Retired Teachers Choir Festival
The RTCF is SAART's premier annual event, bringing together retired teacher associations from across South Africa to celebrate through choral music. What began as a competition in 2017 was converted into a festival — a celebration rather than a contest, growing each year.
Member associations perform in female, mixed and traditional categories, showcasing classical choral works and South African traditional music.
🏛️ SAART Structure
SAART is led by an elected Executive Committee (Exco) comprising Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Treasurer, Marketing Manager and Public Relations Officer. Member associations each have their own executives and participate in the annual choir festival under the SAART umbrella.
